Focused Shockwave Therapy
Relieve Pain. Accelerate Healing. Target the Root of the Problem

A non-invasive treatment
At Physio Fitness, we use Focused Shockwave Therapy to help people recover faster from stubborn injuries, tendon problems, and bone-related issues — especially when other treatments haven’t worked.
This advanced technology delivers precise, high-energy sound waves deep into damaged tissue. The result? Reduced pain, improved mobility, and a kickstart to your body’s natural repair process.
Whether you’re dealing with a long-standing tendon issue or struggling with a slow-healing injury, Focused Shockwave may be part of the answer.
What Is Focused Shockwave Therapy?
Focused Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that sends short, powerful sound waves into your injured tissues. It helps by:
- Increasing blood flow
- Stimulating tissue repair and collagen production
- Relieving pain by desensitising nerves
- Breaking down scar tissue and calcifications
Unlike Radial Shockwave (which treats broader, surface-level areas), Focused Shockwave targets a specific point at a defined depth — making it ideal for deeper, more stubborn injuries.
The Science Behind It (For Those Who Like the Detail)
Focused Shockwave is powered by high-frequency acoustic waves. Here’s what makes it different — and more precise:
- Deep Penetration (up to 12cm): Treats deeper tissues near bone that radial can’t reach
- Pinpoint Accuracy: Targets a small focal area for concentrated energy delivery
- Minimal Skin Irritation: Energy is delivered deeper, avoiding unnecessary surface discomfort
- Fast Impulse, High Energy Density: Ideal for stubborn injuries and dense tissue like calcifications
These waves trigger a cascade of biological responses:
- Increases blood flow and tissue oxygenation
- Stimulates collagen production for tissue repair
- Desensitises nerve endings (pain relief)
- Encourages new blood vessel formation (neovascularisation)
- Boosts osteoblast activity to help with bone healing
- Activates mechanotransduction — turning mechanical stress into cellular repair
What Does It Feel Like?
Treatment lasts just a few minutes and is generally well tolerated. You may feel:
- A tapping or clicking sensation as the sound waves are delivered
- Mild discomfort, but nothing more than a sports massage
- A temporary flare of pain before relief kicks in<
It’s non-invasive, doesn’t require medication, and most people are back to normal activities immediately afterwards.
