High-frequency sound waves

Therapeutic Ultrasound

At Physio Fitness, we use therapeutic ultrasound as part of your hands-on treatment plan — helping reduce pain, ease inflammation, and speed up soft tissue healing. It’s a safe, non-invasive technology that works quietly behind the scenes, supporting your recovery from the inside out.

Ultrasound is included at no extra cost where appropriate — used by your therapist to enhance treatment outcomes in a wide range of injuries and conditions.

What Is Therapeutic Ultrasound?

Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to stimulate healing deep within your tissues. Unlike diagnostic ultrasound (which creates images), this form is all about treatment — promoting circulation, relaxing tight tissues, and accelerating repair.

You won’t hear or see the sound waves — but your body will feel the effects.

A small probe is placed on the skin over the affected area
Sound waves pass into the tissues, creating gentle vibrations
These vibrations increase blood flow and tissue temperature
The result: reduced stiffness, pain relief, and faster recovery

How It Helps You Heal

Therapeutic ultrasound can support your recovery by:

Increasing local blood flow and oxygen delivery
Relaxing tight muscles and easing spasms
Improving tissue elasticity before stretching
Stimulating cellular repair at a microscopic level
Breaking down adhesions and scar tissue
Reducing inflammation and swelling
Helping you move more freely and with less pain

Whether you’re recovering from injury or surgery, or dealing with ongoing discomfort — ultrasound may be one of the tools we use to help you heal better, and faster.

Conditions We Commonly Treat with Ultrasound

Ultrasound is particularly effective for soft tissue injuries and conditions involving inflammation, tension, or restricted movement. We often use it to help with:

  • Tendonitis and tendinopathy
  • Muscle strains and spasms
  • Sprains and ligament injuries
  • Bursitis (especially in the hip or shoulder)
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Arthritis and joint stiffness
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Chronic pain and swelling
  • Scar tissue and joint contracture

It’s useful in both acute injuries (early healing phase) and long-term conditions that haven’t fully settled.

What Does Treatment Feel Like?

Therapeutic ultrasound is painless — most people feel only a mild warmth or a gentle pressure from the probe.

  •  Sessions are quick — just a few minutes as part of your treatment
  •  Effects build over time — best used in combination with other therapies
  •  No downtime — you can continue with normal activities after treatment

You’ll never be asked to book ultrasound separately. Your therapist will include it when they feel it’s the right tool for your recovery.

Why We Use It

At Physio Fitness, we combine hands-on care with advanced technology to get you real results. Ultrasound is one of many tools we may use alongside manual therapy, movement-based rehab, and equipment like Laser, Shockwave or MBST.

It’s never about using every gadget — it’s about using the right ones at the right time, to support your body’s natural healing and help you get back to doing what you love.
